Abstract

Purpose: This study was designed to examine the validity and reliability of revised process of change for weight control scale(POC-WCS) in women college students. Method: Under the methodological research design, data were collected using questionnaire from the sample of 277 women college students selected by convenient sampling. The scale was translated into Korean and a translation equivalency was obtained. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Principal Component Analysis, and Cronbach`s coefficient. Results: Six factors were loaded from 34 items, which was explained 54.295% of total variance. POC-WCS included stimulus control(9 items), self reevaluation(5 items), consciousness raising(5 items), reinforcement management(4 items), dramatic relief (5 items), social liberation(6 items). The internal consistency was acceptable with Cronbach`s alpha .918. Conclusion: The revised POC-WCS had adequate validity and reliability in women college students. It can be used to assess the strategies and to develop the tailored program for weight control across the stages of change for weight control in women college students.
